While in recovery, we had a visit from a pediatrician every day. The person varied, but was always someone from our ped office of choice. The first doctor we had put us off a little bit, but it might have been just our sensitivity. When we informed her that we’d just had Luke circumcised and he was cranky, she looked down at him sympathetically and said “Poor baby, it wasn’t my choice.” We felt like it was some backhanded slap at us for deciding on circumcision. (By the way, it’s all healed and his penis looks fabulous. We told him that will be a good thing later. Thanks to Dr. Clinton!)

Also, Luke has a little skin tag by his ear and when we inquired about removal, the doctor seemed to frown on that because it was medically unnecessary. We have no doubt we want it done, minor as it is, because it looks funny and removal will be quick and painless but apparently we have to wait two months. It was a bad first impression, overall. Judgemental doctors.

However, we’ve seen that same doctor twice in the pediatrician’s office, which was just a coincidence, and been okay with things since. Luke has had good checkups and is completely healthy so there have been no problems. We had some concerns about poop-this or rash-that, and we were put at ease. The first appointment, at approximately one week, found that he was under his birth weight, which is normal. The two week appointment showed that he’d gained over his birth weight which indicated we were headed in the right direction and were feeding him properly.

Our next appointment is at five weeks of age.
