Level 2 Ultrasound
We had our Level Two ultrasound today at ~20 weeks. We underestimated the time it would take us to get there so we were running about 20 minutes late. Fortunately, they allowed us in. We’d been consistently zipping from Oak Park to the hospital in about 25 minutes, even in traffic, so we we’re getting overconfident. It was a good lesson to learn because the next time being late could be more impactful.
As usual, Elizabeth got her vitals measured, blood pressure, weight, heart rate, as we waited to be led into the room. Everything was fine. The actual procedure was about 45 minutes and involved scanning the belly area from every angle. I guess our little guy was not being cooperative at first — he was rather balled up until Elizabeth made a trip to the bathroom. Again, we saw him moving around lots and that was fun.
The analysis by the doctor afterwards was that everything looked good. There is a potential issue that might mean a c-section is necessary. However, the doctor seemed confident that it would likely take care of itself. Despite Elizabeth’s fears, we both want to pursue a natural birth so having to get a c-section would be a disappointment. There are advantages, however, such as knowing the actual date of the birth and not having the usual complications although c-sections bring their own complications. The result for now is that we’ll likely have a few more ultrasounds to check on this issue, so that’s cool.
The following are all the scans we were given from the tests:
- Thumbs Up!!
- This kid has serious attitude already.
- Left foot, I believe
- Right foot
- We already knew he was a boy but I think this cheekiness is de rigueur for ultrasound techs.
- Heart beat, strong and steady
