After a nerve racking day, we finally got the results at 4:55pm, Thursday. The preliminary chromosomal tests were all clear and we found out we’re having a boy! There are some further results we’ll receive later but these early results are the biggies.

I was okay at work in the morning but as the day wore on and I realized that I was about to find out the news any moment I started getting really nervous. Originally, I expected to get a random call at some random time and before I could realize it, Elizabeth would blurt out the results. However, as the day wore on and we’d heard nothing, she called at 4:50 p.m. to find that they’d only just received the results and she’d get a call shortly. Before she hung up, the doctor was on the other line and we got the good news.

To be honest, we realized that we’d been thinking girl all along — not that we ever said we preferred a girl, but we had only really discussed female names for some reason. I did secretly fantasize about seeing Elizabeth and a mini-Elizabeth out shopping together, wearing dresses and holding hands. Still, we’re both overjoyed with the news and we’ve told ourselves that we’ll try next time for a younger sister for our son.

“Son,” wow.

Despite being among eleven cousins, I’m only one of two sons of Carrier sons, meaning that only my future son or my cousin Andrew’s (in his mid-late 20′s, he’s not married yet) future son could carry the Carrier name to the next generation. Now we know that will happen!

Also, we will be breaking the news to family this weekend! Yay!
