I was freaking nervous today.

Before Doctor Barnes proceeded, we informed him of the spotting and cramping and he was not forthcoming with reassurances. That didn’t matter, because we were about to find out the truth with the pending ultrasound, anyway.

As you’ve guessed from the headline, we saw the little fetus on the u/s and, more importantly, it measured .85 centimeters or an estimated gestational age of 6 weeks and 6 days. Keep in mind that the first day of Elizabeth’s last period was October 20th, which puts the little fetus slightly ahead of schedule (consistent with our belief that ovulation was early in the cycle). What this means is that while it’s too soon to see definitive proof (like a strong heartbeat), the fetus has been growing at the proper rate. Our scare of the cramping and spotting appears to be just that — a scare!!!!

I AM SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!

Doctors believe that up until day 48, all fetuses develop at the same rate, therefore the age of the fetus can be reasonably estimated at this time. A fetus that measures smaller than the known age may be in trouble. Not ours though :) . More can be found on this here.
