Again, Elizabeth is pregnant! We bought a bunch of home tests to be sure. It’s pretty fun to do when you know the results are going to be in your favor (even at ~$8 a pop). I took alot of pictures of them, too — lined up, with us holding them, etc.

One really nice thing about being in the fertility program is that you get really early and frequent ultrasounds when you’re pregnant. When you’ve got miscarriages on your mind, ultrasounds are reassurances (if they’re good) that things are okay. Women with “normal” pregnancies usually have to wait until the 8-10th week before they get a u/s and if things don’t work out (like with us back in September), you’ll never get one — at least a good one. If you’re in the fertility program, you’ll get it at 6 weeks and again at 7-8 weeks. After that, you’ll get another when you meet with your regular OB/GYN.

We felt like fertility all-stars. Many couples do many rounds of IUI, then IVF before they get pregnant (if they can) and we hit it out of the park the first time! In our minds it meant we probably didn’t really need it anyway, after all, we got pregnant naturally only months before? Still, we were very happy we did it, obviously.

I was on a business trip at the time of the ultrasound and Elizabeth said that the u/s tech was kind of curious where I was. Believe me, I would have been there if I could have but since it’s just routine and there should be many more, there’s no reason to cancel a trip over it. The u/s revealed a tiny fetus, as hoped, although the size was just barely smaller than it should be. Dr. Barnes made a note of it but didn’t sound the alarm.

I let Yosef (from Acupuncture Points) know that we’d succeeded and I didn’t need to continue to go. Whether acupuncture helped or not, who can say? The bottom line is, we covered our bases and were pregnant. Maybe it was that prayer, I said? Who cares? Something worked!

We even felt a little guilty in the fertility center. There were couples there who had many more tries to go, couples who might not succeed no matter what they tried and couples who were only just beginning the process. We’d now joined the other side, we’d reached the goal, the top of the mountain. We were pregnant, a success story! Maybe they’d feature us in a newsletter! Just kidding, of course.
